Clint: I would like to ask why do some people chant the Gayatri Mantra saying Varenyam and others vibrate the ‘M’ sound to make it Varenya m-m-m? Is there a special reason why some do that? I am so grateful that you are available!
Swami Ram Swarup: Chanting of Gayatri mantra and other ved mantras is traditional and now is also based on Vedic Sanskrit grammar where the knowledge of swar and vyanjan is also given. So, according to the tradition and also based on the said grammar-‘Ma’ alphabet is earmarked with halant (Sanskrit word) which shows that ‘M’ will be pronounced without swar i.e., without sound of swar “a”. Therefore, ‘Ma’ vyanjan does not require stress.
S V: Mere papa ki death 2 sal pahle hui thi aur mai unki puja karti hu roj phul aur agarbatti se aur mai sadi suda hu to kya ye sahi hai?
Swami Ram Swarup: Aapke Pitaji kee death ke bare mein sunkar bahut dukh hua. Main Ishwar se prarthna karta hoon ki weh aapke pitaji ki atma ko shanti dein aur aapkee mataji ko dheeraj dein yeh dukh ko sehne ka. Pooja karna sahi nahin hai, Han! Unkee yaad vedon ke anusar to rakhna aur unke liye Yajyen karna uttam hai.
Vedic philosophy states that death and birth, happiness-sorrows are based on our previous lives’ deeds- good and bad respectively. These are awarded by God Himself as per Vedas like Rigveda mantra 10/135/1,2. Secondly, in the matter of death, it is clearly stated in Vedas as well as in Yog shastra sutra 2/9 that death is equally compulsorily faced by learned as well as ignorant. It is an eternal and everlasting truth. So, Atharvaveda states not to weep for departed souls otherwise it effects in decreasing our own life.
So, I would like to advise you to please take care of your health to discharge your moral duties satisfactorily to attain long, happy life. Whatever we feel shocked, it is due to attachment. Otherwise, why don’t we remember our forefathers. It is because they were not so close to us as our father. Otherwise they are also respectable to us. To attain peace and conquer difficulties, I advise you to seek God’s blessings by doing the following-
K Guruprasad: Crores of pranams Maharajji. Can you please enlighten if the below verse is written by Rishi. If so, request you to give the reference book. The below shloka is taken from the website on the aspects of benefits of chanting ved mantras. One more question is, what is the real benefit just by chanting without knowing the meaning? and without trying to implement? Always at your lotus feet. Your son from Bangalore.
Samhitapathamatrena yatphalam procyate budhaih
Padu tu dvigunam vidyat krame tu ca caturgunam
Varnakrame satagunam jatayantu sahasrakam
Swami Ram Swarup: My blessings to you all, my son. By chanting mantras, the ved mata is pleased and blesses to know the deepness of ved mantras i.e., situation arises and devotee becomes capable to know meaning of ved mantras and so on.
The shloka seems to be written by a learned person but the book where it is mentioned is not known.
