Shivanshu: Pranam Swamiji, Swamiji what is Dharma, please explain in detail?
Swami Ram Swarup: My blessings to you. Ours is a vedic culture which has been neglected by India since long. So, man-made meanings are being utilized which created several problems, confrontations have disturbed peace etc. According to Manusmriti shloka 2/6- “Vedaha Akhilaha Dharmam Moolam” i.e., the root of Dharma is four Vedas. Bhagwad Geeta shloka 3/15 also states that Oh! Arjun, Karmas are originated from Vedas and Vedas emanates directly from God but it is astonishing that nobody follows this eternal truth. So, the meaning of Dharma according to vedas and Shastras etc., is to discharge moral duties which are mentioned in Vedas i.e. Dharma means to do pious deeds mentioned in Vedas. Mimansa Shastra 1/1/2 also states that- ‘Chodanalakshannoartho Dharmah’.
Chodano means the deeds which are inspired to be done by Vedas. So, meaning is the deeds which are inspired by Vedas to be done, in our Dharma i.e., is our moral duty i.e., we should only do the deeds which are inspired by Vedas. So, nowadays meaning of Dharma has been told as sects, customs etc., which is self-made and against Vedas.
Shanthi: My daughter a pre-mature baby. When can I celebrate mundan ceremony?
Swami Ram Swarup: Doesn’t matter, if your loving daughter is pre mature born. But the date of birth counts. Mundan ceremony is either performed after completion of one year but the best time is to perform after completion of two years i.e., in third year and your counting of the year starts from the date of birth of the baby.
