N: Namaste, We are expecting our first baby soon & want to know what sort of pooja is to be performed in the 7th month. I want to know can a pregnant women perform a havan. We plan to perform a ganesh Pooja on 11th April, is this an auspicious day?
Swami Ram Swarup: Namaste. You are advised to do the havan daily even with Gayatri mantra. Seemontanayan sanskar with ved mantras is performed. If you are interested for the same, you may contact nearest Arya samaj mandir to perform the said sanskar. Yes, pregnant woman should perform havan daily. Since ganesh pooja is not mentioned in Vedas, so no comments, please.
Y K: Namaste Swamiji. I am in perth right now. I want to perform monthly hawan at my place. While I was in Mauritius a Panditji was coming to do it usually. Its been 1 year I am in Perth and havent done any hawan. I just want to know the basic procedures to perform hawan myself. I would be so grateful if you can help me.pranam panditji
Swami Ram Swarup: Namaste, My blessings to you. I appreciate your views of performing daily havan which is worship of Almighty God. In this connection, I would advise you to see video CD in which the procedure of performing havan has been explained in detail. The CD has been prepared here in Ved Mandir by me and several devotees have got benefit of the same. CD is in Hindi language, please. In the end, gayatri mantra has also been explained in English language. Also, there is a book- Yajyen karma sarvashresth Ishwar Pooja (in Hindi) explaining meaning of Ved mantras is also available, if you desire. Selected books can be sent, if you desire, on receipt of your postal address.
Sagar: Is cow slaughter strictly banned in Vedas?
Swami Ram Swarup: Yes, please. Cow slaughter is strictly banned in Vedas. Cow has been stated “Vishwa Matraha” i.e., mother of the world. I have written a book named- “Protect the Holy Cow- Say Vedas” (in English) worth Rs.40/-, excluding postal charges and would advise you to study the same, if you desire. You will surely get immense, detailed and divine knowledge through said book.

UPWAS
Upvas is beneficial if done once in month or two, keeping health point of view in mind. Upvas has no relation with spiritualism. During upvas we must take sufficient water, lemonade and fresh fruit juice. Anema has no concern with upvas, please. The spiritual meaning of upvas is —– up= near, was= reside i.e., to reside nearest to the God. Now, God is omnipresent and is within us as well but realization of God is not there. So when we listen Vedas and other true holy books, do name-jaap and practice of Ashtang yoga philosophy, it means we are in an atmosphere which is nearest to God i.e., by the said process we will be able to realize God.
