Anonymous: Pranam Guruwar,
I come from a Vedic background with my father’s family being arya samaji and doing havan on every major festival. But my kama has been my biggest enemy since birth. As far as I remember I always was too sensitive and my kamendriya were very difficult to control. It has made me going to different bad places and made me emotionally and economically distressed. I have observed that whenever I do wrong sensual kriya I attract bad luck, and whenever I restrain my self for a period of time I start getting lucky. I believe this dosh is from previous birth acts, but swamiji I beg you kindly show me a path to control it. I am still unmarried, I don’t want to continue on this but I somehow get bounded by this force.
Swami Ram Swarup: In this connection, I paste my article below—
Controlling bad thoughts
Good thoughts control bad thoughts. Therefore in Vedas, there are two pious words- sankalp i.e., pious thoughts and Vikalp i.e., bad thoughts.
In Shantiparv of Mahabharat, Bhisham Pitamah state that O Yudhishthir! There is a simple way to control the bad thoughts regarding sensuality, etc., that one should try not to allow any bad thoughts to enter in his mind. But question arises how the same can be made possible?
In this connection Rigveda Mantra 10/53/7 states that one should always work hard to do pious deeds according to Vedas. Thus, he will gather and realize the knowledge which will further enable him to control his senses, perceptions and mind. So it is necessary to seek the shelter of a learned acharya who will guide and preach the Vedic path. One should also learn Vedic philosophy which will help the individual to kill bad thoughts.
I have written about sixteen holy books based on Vedas, on such subjects. Some CDs containing spiritual preach and spiritual songs of mine shall also be of considerable help in this matter because main subject is to listen Vedas either through Cds or books. One should also awake early in the morning daily for morning walk and light exercises , must take plenty of water daily i.e., 15-20 glasses a day, chanting of Gayatri mantra and doing daily hawan from Gayatri mantra gives a fruitful result. Aasan, prannayam and daily meditation must be learnt and one should practise the same.
