K: Pranam Swamiji, If some lady liked a man thinking that she was interested in marrying him but the marriage doesn’t happen with that person. Lady gets married to other person. What should the lady do now? Didn’t she have right to marry after what happened?
Swami Ram Swarup: My blessings to you. Now, the lady should be faithful to her husband forgetting her past.
Prasad: Swamiji- My Pranams to you One person named Aravindaksha Menon is claiming in his book that these hymns are explaining about Jesus. Is there any truth in this?
Swami Ram Swarup: My blessings to you. No, please. No Hymn (ved mantra) states about any religious person. Fundamentally, Vedas do not quote any proper noun. Vedas are eternal knowledge. Vedas do not contain any name, history etc. Problem is this that people nowadays lack Vedas’ knowledge and therefore, anyone can mislead the public. So, the ved mantras quoted by you, state only about Formless, Almighty God who creates, nurses and destroys the universe. He never takes birth. He is immortal.
Rajeev: Pranam swamiji, my question 2 u is non veg is not allowed according 2 vedas, and if u r eating non veg then we are making sins, if it’s only about taking the life of innocent animals then science has proved that plants have life too, therefore if we are eating veg then also we are taking the life of plants,t hen what should we eat for our survival, please clear dis concept,-your follower.
Swami Ram Swarup: My blessings to you. In this regard, I paste my article-
PLANTS HAVE SOUL
Plants have soul. You see, when a lion kills deer, buffalo, cow etc., in the jungle and eats it, God does not punish him because it is the nature of lion and other carnivorous animals to eat flesh.
Similarly God has allowed us to take vegetarian food, not the lion. So, we are not punished yet there is difference between flesh and vegetarian food. All vegetarian food should be taken when it is ripened. Secondly, you see, when the crops are ripened, only then are they cut and at that time soul has already left the crop before it is cut. That is why, it is told that vegetarian food should not be cut till it is ripened.
So we are allowed to take vegetarian food and not non-vegetarian food. Non-vegetarian is allowed by Almighty God to be consumed by carnivorous animals. I also paste my article in this connection:-
Vegetarians
We have to obey the preach of Vedas which emanates direct from God at the beginning of the earth. For carnivorous animals like lion, tiger, wolves, cat, dog etc., God allows to take non-vegetarian food. So the said act to take non-vegetarian food is not their sin. Similarly in Vedas for human beings, God states to take vegetarian food which is not a sin. Secondly, for human beings, Vedas strictly prohibit non-vegetarian food. That is why, we must take vegetables, food-grains etc., when they are fully ripe.
Vegetarians and non-vegetarians are two categories. Accordingly the construction of body i.e., teeth, small intestine and large intestine, and digestive system has been made by God.
Human beings come in vegetarian category. Our teeth and digestive system always differ from cat, dog, lion etc. Some animals like cow, buffalo, goat, elephant etc., also come in Vegetarian category. We take water by sipping but the animals who are non-vegetarian i.e., meat eater they do not sip but lick. Whatever we eat, that food develops our mind, body and creates natural behaviour. For example if we take a cub who is newly born and nurse him by giving milk and thereafter vegetarian food only and on the other hand to another cub we provide him meat, then when they will be younger their habit will differ. The cub taking vegetarian food will not be as violent as the cub who took meat.
Now medical science also says that the energy in vegetarian food is more than that in non-vegetarian food. Vegetarian food gives long and ill free life. Vegetarian elephant is stronger than non-vegetarian lion.
Nobody can take meat until one gives violence to animals or birds etc., which is a sin. Our stomach becomes a graveyard where we gather meat by eating. As regards life in vegetarians it does not harm to them while plucking from plants etc. because every vegetarian plant has short life and is meant to give food to the human life. But to us meat is not entitled. Science has recently told that non-vegetarians are more susceptible to cancer disease and teeth degeneration as compared to vegetarians.
Non-vegetarian food is prohibited as per Vedas, shastras, Upnishads and all the ancient holy books. In vegetarian food an ocean of calories and vitamins is available by the mercy of God. Please check from a dietician about the same. Because it is lengthy one and I cannot explain here. For example dal, is full of proteins, soybean has more protein than any non-vegetarian food, which has ability to inhibit cancer also where as non-vegetarian does not. Green vegetables like palak, methi, etc., are the richest source of iron and vitamin A. So is the case of milk, curd, rice, fruit, etc.
The knowledge of Vedas emanates direct from God at the time of beginning of earth. So in this creation, the Vedas are the oldest knowledge originated about one arab 97 crore years ago. In all four Vedas, God has prohibited non-vegetarian, please.
Atharvaveda mantra 6/140/1 also states that Oh God! May my teeth, like the teeth of wolf not take non-vegetarian food. Non-vegetarian has only some limited energy and vitamins whereas cow-milk is a complete food. Dry fruits, vegetables, curd, fruits etc., i.e., all other vegetable food has been made by God for us which are more beneficial than non-vegetarian food. Manusmriti shloka 2/177 strictly prohibits to take non-vegetarian food and any type of addiction. The nature of the animals or human beings who take non-vegetarian food is more violent than those who take vegetarian food. In this connection, you may consider lion, tiger, wolves, jackals etc. As regards power of vegetarian you may think about elephant who is the most powerful than other human/living beings and is vegetarian.
Onion and garlic are included as vegetarian food and full of vitamins, they protect from heat stroke, make stomach strong and make strong eye sight etc., but both are of Tamogunni nature and therefore only Brahmachari must not take the same.
In Rigveda mantra 10/27/6 God states that (Darsham) I see and know them (Annindran) who do not have faith in the [God] and are atheists and (Shritpaan) who devour the flesh of others.
(Eshu) upon them (Uu Nu) definitely and soon (Pavyaha Va Vrityuhu) befall My punishments.
Idea of the mantra is that The God is Omniscient i.e., He knows everyone. So, He knows thse persons as well, who consume non-vegetarian. The said act being against the Vedas becomes a sin and God sooner or later punishes such people.
Madhuri: Aadarneeya swami ji, sadar namaste! mere pichhle prashnon ka uttar dene k liye apka hardik dhanyavad! kripaya meri nimna shankaon ka bhi smadhan karen:
1) chitta kya hota hai? sanskaar kya hota hai aur yah kabhi nashta hota hai ya nahin? yadi humane koi sakaam karma kiya hai to kya uska sanskaar hamesha rahega (mukti se lautne ke baad bhi)? yadi haan to phir to hum asankhya karmon ke sanskaaron ko har samay apne sath liye rahte hain! inme se kaun se sanskaar kis samay kitne prabhavi hote hain?
2) kya hum isi janm me mukt ho sakte hain?
3) vairagya ko jeev swayam gyan se utpanna karta hai ya phir anek janmon tak bhogon ko bhogate huye jab wah unse oob jata hai to swatah hi vairagya utpanna ho jata hai? hum anek jeevon ko dekhte hain ki wah ishwar ke swarup ka sahi gyan na hone par bhi virakt hain wahin doosari or anek jeev ishwar ke swaroop ka shabdik gyan hote huye bhi aur yahan tak ki virakti ki ichchha rakhte huye bhi virakt nahin ho pate, aisa kyun hai?
4) swami dayanand ji ne satyarth prakash me jo yogyatayen char ashramon me pravesh ke liye batayi hain, unme se kisi bhi ashram ki yogyata ko na rakhne wale ko kya karana chahiye? wo kaise nirdharit karen ki unke liye kaun sa ashram upyukta hai?
5) kya kisi aushadhi ke sevan se smriti ya tark shakti arthat chitta ya buddhi prabhavit ho sakti hai? sadhanyavad, Madhuri
Swami Ram Swarup: My blessings to you, my daughter. You are welcome, please.
1.) Chitta ussey kehte hain jispe insaan ke achchey-burey karma karne ka sanskar ban jaata hai jissey chitta vritti bhi kehte hain. Uchit samay aaney par chitta ka sanskar jaagta hai arthat prabhav mein aata hai aur achcha sanskar ho to jeev ko punnya aur sukh milta hai aur bura sanskar ho to jeev ko paap aur paap ka phal dukh bhogna padta hai. Jaisa upar kaha ki chitta par kiye hue karmon ka jo asar hota hai ussey hee sanskar kehtey hain. Jaise kisi ne paap kiya to chitta par paap ka sanskar (vritti) pad jaata hai aur samay aaney par us paap ka phal Ishwar dukh ke roop mein deta hai. Aisey hee punya karega to punya ka phal sukh milega.
Sakaam karma achcha ho ya bura ho, dono ke sanskar chitta par rehte hain aur samay aaney par achcha bura phal dete hain. Mukti se lautne par naye sanskar bante hain. Kaunsa sanskar kab prabhavi hoyega iska lekha jokha kewal Ishwar ko hee maloom hai.
2.) Kathor vedic sadhna se yadi issee janam mein par-vairagya prapt ho jaaye to issee janam mein bhi mukti sambhav hai.
3.) Vairagya vedaadhyayan, nitya agnihotra/ yajyen, naam jaap, kathor Ashtang Yog sadhna karne par Ishwar-Guru ki kripa se hota hai. Ishwar karma, gyan, Upasana, Prakriti, Jeev ityadi ka vedaadhyayan dwara shabdik gyan aur uskey paschat kisi mahan acharya ke sanrakshan mein upar Ashtang Yoga aadi sadhna karne par hee sansar se virakta arthat vairagyavan hua jaata hai. Bas yahi ek marg hai, ab isme yeh kehna ki Ishwar ka swarup ka sahi gyan na honey par koi virakt ho jaata hai, aisa kabhi nahi hota. Yeh ved-shastron ka niyam nahin hai. Niyam upar keh diye gaye hain. Ishwar ke swarup ka kewal shabdik gyan hone par bhi koi virakt nahin ho sakta.
4.) Agar chaaro ashram mein se koi bhi yogyta kisi ko prapt nahin hai to ussey yogyta prapt karne ke liye sadhna karnee chahiye. Ashram nirdharit karne ke liye kisi vedon ke gyata vidwan ke paas jaana chahiye. Wahi ussey batayeingey. Iskey ilawa aur koi rasta nahin hai.
5.) Han! Aushadhi ke sewan se, satvik vichaar se aur poornna roop se Brahmacharya dharann karne se smriti aur chitta evam buddhi prabhvit hotey hain. Aapko mera ashirwad, beti.
Prakash B: Swamiji Pranam. I am honoured again by your answers. My sincere respects to you. “Nav Varsh Ki Shubh Kaamnaaye”
Swami Ram Swarup: My heartiest blessings to you. Thank you, please. Wishing you a happy, prosperous new year.
Ramji: What is the world?
Swami Ram Swarup: The World is a place to do good or bad deeds and according to that, face the result thereof, by facing birth and death, again and again.
However, when a person makes contact with a learned acharya of Vedas and Ashtang Yog vidya, then he attains salvation and drifts away from the cycle of death and birth and gets liberated from the world.
Manu: Pranam Swamiji, Mother is cosidered as playing a key role in shaping and making the bright future of her child. But, no person is totally perfect in this world. Sometime , mother might have committed some sin by following path of immorality. Does that mean such mother is not worth for giving good sanskars or moral values to the child?
Swami Ram Swarup: My blessings to you. Yes, definition of the mother in Vedas is to make future bright of her children. However, the said moral duty is only discharged by a learned mother only.
Narayan Bhakt: Guruji pranam, guruji mein 12vi ka chatra hu aur mera maan padhai mein nahi lagta isliye nahi ki mein padai mein kamzor hu par isliye ki mujhe kisi bhi field mein dil se intreast nahi aaraha. Meine maths science liya hein par mujhe usme intreast nahi hein guruji mein kia karu yein mere career ks sawal hein pls guruji help… Mera maan ek jaga stir nshi raheta. Konsa mantra karu. Aur mein narayan ka bhakt……… Guruji help pls
Swami Ram Swarup: My blessings to you, my son. Yadi aapko maths, science mein interest nahin hai to aapko apni choice ke hee subjects chunney chahiye. Doosra. Yadi aapka padai mein dil nahin lagta to yeh vidyarthi ke liye ek bahut badaa paap hai. aapko concentration banana ke liye rozana yeh karne ki advise kar raha hoon-
Shubh Karma
Hard working, devotion, dedication, honesty, services to the parents and elders to follow eternal religion mentioned in Vedas, practice of Ashtang Yoga, discharging moral duties to get progress in education, science simultaneously with spiritualism like, daily havan, to be in contact with the learned Acharya, to get his advice, are some of the pious deeds which make the future bright and obliterate the sorrows, problems, diseases, etc.
One must wake up early in the morning for early morning walk and exercises, must sit on meditation and chant holy name of God, must be away from any addiction and non-vegetarian. Such pious actions lead to long, happy life and bright future.
GAYATRI MANTRA
The Gayatri mantra is as follows —
OM BHURBHUVAHA SWAHA TATA SAVITUR VARENYAM BHARGODEVASYA
DHIMAHI DHIYO YO NAHA PRACHODYAT
Meaning of Gayatri mantra stating each word is as follows. Its meaning is based on
Vedas and Sanskrit grammar. Grammatical hints are in short please.
Om has three Hindi words. Aa, Uu AND Ma. Aa is meant for Aakaar from which three
names of God are built, Viraat, Agni, and Vishwadi. From Uu = uukar from which
Hirannyagarbha, Vayu and Tejas names occur and Ma = makaar from which Ishwar,
Aditya and Praajyan aadi, holy names of God occur. Rigveda mantra 1/164/46 says
God is one but His names are several. But here OM the holy name of God is only
being explained.
VIRAAT = Viraat word is made from dhatu ‘Rajrideeptau’ i.e., manifest. Therefore
Viraat means He who manifests the universe. As God manifests the universe, thus
Viraat is the name of God. Rigveda mandal 10, sukta 129 states that like potter
makes pot from clay, similarly God creates universe from non-alive matter prakriti.
Prakriti is unseen matter. From unseen matter, the whole universe is created in the
visible form. Science also says that matter is never destroyed but changes its form.
Suppose a paper is burnt, paper changes its form into ashes. Then ashes are crushed
and thrown in air. At this moment, the paper changed into ashes becomes invisible
but was never destroyed. Similarly the whole universe at the time of final destruction
is turned into prakriti i.e., into unseen form.
AGNI = From dhatu, “ANCHU GATI POOJANAYOHO” the word “AGNI is made. Its
meaning is: He who is a form of wisdom. “SARVAJAYEN” i.e., Omniscient. That is,
knows each and every atom of universe and even beyond universe. He who is to be
known, to be gained and is worshipful. So Agni is the name of God.
VISHWA = Vishwa word is made from dhatu, “VISHPRAVESHANE”. Its meaning is He
in whom the universe is entering or He who is entering the universe. So being
omnipresent, Vishwa is the name of God.
HIRANNYAGARBHA = i.e., ” JYOTIRVAYIHIRANYAM”. Its meaning is, who is the base
of all sun, etc., luminous lokas or He who is the living place of all luminous lokas.
VAYU = from dhatu, “VA GATIGANDHANYOHO”, vayu word is made. Its meaning is
He who holds, gives life and destroys and is the mightiest amongst all. So the name
of God is Vayu.
TEJ = from dhatu, “TIJA NISHANE”, the word Tej is made meaning He who is self
made and self-enlightened and gives light to sun, moon, stars etc. God does not take
light from anywhere but gives light to sun, moon, stars, etc. so the unbroken,
unobstructed/unproduced and eternal form of light is Almighty God and not sun,
moon etc. So the name of God is Tej.
ISHWAR = from dhatu, “ISH ASHWERIYE”, the word Ishwar is made. Its meaning is
whose knowledge is thoughtful and true and He who has unlimited wealth, fortune
and glory etc. Therefore the name of God is Ishwar. Here it is not out of place to
mention that soul (man/woman) has limited qualities and are dependent whereas
God is independent and has unlimited qualities that is why He is God.
ADITYA = from dhatu, “DO AVAKHANDANE”, Aditya word is made. Its meaning is the
one who cannot be broken into pieces and thus cannot be destroyed. So God’s name
is Aditya.
PRAJAYEN (PRAGYA) = from dhatu, “JYEN AVABODHANE”, Prajayen word is made
meaning whose wisdom is totally without any misunderstanding and thus he who
knows every matter and behavior of whole universe without misunderstanding. So
God’s name is Prajayen. So here also it is not out of place to mention that illusion
can never attack on God and God is totally free from illusion.
BHUHU = “BHUHU ITI VAYEE PRANAHA” i.e., He who is the base of lives of universe,
is most beloved, even more than Prann i.e., breath. So Bhuhu is the name of God.
BHUVAHA= “BHUVAHA ITI APANAHA” i.e., He who is totally free from any sorrow,
and the soul removes his own all sorrows after coming in contact with Him. So the
name of God is Bhuvaha.
SWAHA = i.e., “SWAHA ITI VYANAHE” who is omnipresent in the universe and is
holding the same. So the name of God is Swaha.
SAVITUHU = He who creates the universe. So the name of God is Savituhu.
DEVSYA= who gives all pleasure/merriment, so the name of God is Dev.
VARENNYAM = He who is the most supreme and acceptable. God is most supreme
and acceptable for worship.
BHARGAHA = the purest entity (though God is formless, but finding no suitable
English word of Sanskrit word, “SHUDH SWARUPAM” the word entity has been used.)
TAT = i.e., the God i.e., of the purest entity.
DHIMAHI = i.e., we must hold (sort of meditation) because
YAHA = the God
NAHA = our,
DHIYAHA = mind(i.e., in our minds)
PRACHODYAT = by inspiration (fulfil the mind with wisdom)
MEANING
“We meditate the God who is the base of lives’ of universe, totally free from any sorrow, omnipresent, creates the universe, gives all pleasure/merriment, most supreme and acceptable, purest entity; May the God enlighten our minds with wisdom by His inspiration”.
Here it is not out of place to mention that idea of a (one) Ved mantra is based on ideas of several Ved mantras. So in the above Gayatri mantra, there are three things —-
Bhuhu, Bhuvaha, Swaha, Savituhu, Bhargaha, Devsya are some qualities amongst unlimited qualities of God. These are called Stuti i.e., to say about God with His real qualities and not self made etc.
Secondly Dhimahi means meditation i.e., one should always sit in meditation and do hard and pious deeds for which he will have to study Vedas in full, while discharging moral duties towards family and nation.
Third and last is DHIYO YO NAHA PRACHODYAT. It is a prayer to God explanation of which is cited above.
How to do havan
Please sit in the morning to perform havan. Havan must be in sunlight then it is more beneficial. Then half a bowl of fresh water with a tablespoon must be with you with small twigs especially of mango tree if possible, havan samagri, ghee, camphor and match box must be there with you. Please sit on sukh asan on four times folded blanket and blanket must be on mat.
Sukh asan i.e., sit on duly folded feet in comfortable position. Then first close your eyes and concentrate between two eyebrows and chant Gayatri mantra three times within heart and not by mouth. Then open your eyes.
Take one spoon of water in right palm. Chant this mantra, OM AMRITO UPASTRANMASI SWAHA and drink the water which you have put in your palm. Then again take the spoon of water in right palm then chant the next mantra, OM AMRITA APIDHANMASI SWAHA, and drink the water. Then again take the water in right palm and chant the mantra, OM SATYAM YASHAH SHRI MAYI SHRI SHRAYTAAM SWAHA, and drink the water. Then wash the right palm while sitting, with the same water kept in bowl.
Then put the twigs into havan kund with one piece of camphor and burn it. During this process chant the Gayatri mantra again and again till such time the fire is lighted sufficiently. Then chant the Gayatri mantra and at the last add the word Swaha and offer ghee with tablespoon, quantity equivalent to 4 to 5 drops. And if you are alone then also offer in fire pinch of havan samagri from your right hand’s finger and thumb avoiding forefinger. So this offering may be of 11 times, 21 times or 51 times as the time suits. It is the simplest way and I have not quoted the complete method of Yajna. The havan with Ved mantras are always offered as the best worship of God only please. Do havan daily and both times.
STUDENT LOSING CONCENTRATION
Concentration is not made on mind, but mind has to be concentrated on particular point or subject etc. It requires practice of Yam, Niyam, Asan, Prannayam, Pratyahar, Dharnna and Dhyan then one attains Samadhi. In this path, guidance of a spiritual master who knows Vedas and Ashtang Yoga philosophy is needed. Holy name jaap of God helps a lot. I have written a book on Yoga which can be sent on receipt of your postal address. However, personal guidance as stated is essential. It is a moral duty of a student to concentrate on hard study and to look after his health. Avoid bad society always concentrate on your Brahamcharya. Awake early in the morning and after bath-brush etc., do holy name jaap of God at least for fifteen minutes. Go for morning walk and light exercises daily. Take plenty of water i.e., 15-20 glass in a day. Always respect your parents, elders and teachers. Must be soft spoken, Avoid TV to see bad scenes, films etc. This all will help you to concentrate in you study. Whatever, you study and learn, try to write on rough book a lot without seeing books etc. Please refer to the book- “Brahamcharya-Dukh Nivarak Divya Mani” (in Hindi) worth Rs.100/-, excluding postal charges, that can be sent on receipt of your postal address, if you desire. The book is specially meant for students.
