Alvin Lal: Pranaam guruji, the logic that, past karma’s apply in this life and you will get birth in next life according to your karma in this life does not make sense. Guruji please clarify.
If the above logic is true, then why is population on the increase and why is crime increasing, if the above logic is true, then human population should be decreasing, because re-birth will be in the form of Dog, Cat or lower..etc.. due to criminal activities (karma / deeds)… i.e. Why is population increasing if your re-birth is according to deeds done here in this life?

Swami Ram Swarup: In this connection, Rigveda mantra 10/135/1,2,3 states that we have been given the present birth to face the result of previous lives’ deeds and whatever we do in the present life, we will have to face in future lives. In this connection, I paste here my article also after studying the article, please again forward your query.
There are three types of deeds (karmas) – sanchit, prarabhadh and kriyamann. Suppose one soul has to take birth (body). It means he has to face total number of deeds of his all previous lives and these deeds are called sanchit karmas but sanchit deeds are huge/unlimited and cannot be faced in one life. So the karmas which can be faced in one life are called prarabhadh (luck-destiny). So God has not made our luck at His own but Almighty God has taken the deeds which we have already done.
Yajurveda mantra 7/48 clarifies that human being is free to do any deed good or bad but God only awards the result. Now the balance deeds from sanchit deeds will be counted in the next life. Now the deeds which we do in our day today present life are called kriyamann.
If we do pious deeds according to Vedas, shastras and holy books and based on pious preaches of Rishi, Muni/learned saints then our all sanchit deeds are burnt and we can get salvation. Human beings are free in the matter of doing deeds good or bad. But result will be awarded by God. So we must worship and do pious deeds under guidance of a learned Guru. One should go always ahead for hard working, pious deeds, worship to make future bright himself. One should always work hard towards a right path.
Worship does not mean that we are free to discharge only our family duties, education, etc., but rather it is a sin. We have to get progress in both way at a time i.e., spiritualism and worldly progress i.e., science, education, duties towards family etc. God creates the universe according to His eternal law framed in Vedas which are always unchangeable and unchallengeable. So we have to follow the law of God always to get long happy life.
Alvin Lal: Pranaam Guruji, again on the question of Women’s freedom within Vedas and equality with Men. It seems that Vedas states that the woman must be dressed appropriately at all times, being covered and not much of her body exposed. Is this rule only for women? If so, why? What does the Vedas state about Men dressing?
Swami Ram Swarup: My blessings to you. Vedic culture is eternal, scientifically true and applicable to all and for the welfare and benefit of everyone. As far as clothes are concerned, it is also applicable for men.
Anonymous: Someone told me according to my grahs I should wear gems like pana and neelam.
Swami Ram Swarup: Such system is not mentioned in Vedas. In this connection, I paste an article.
WEARING GEMS
Yajurveda mantra 7/48 and similar types of several mantras of Vedas state that we, the human beings are free to do pious deeds or sins. But result thereof is already awarded by Almighty God in the shape of happiness and sorrows respectively. Everybody knows that Almighty God is supreme judge, so how a man/woman or a gem can change the result of the deeds of a person. For example- God has given punishment to a person due to his sins of previous lives and person has to face sorrows, accident etc., then how can an astrologer or gem change the award of Almighty God. Actually, due to lack of the knowledge of Vedas, fundamental law of nature/God has now become unknown to the innocent public, with the result, several man made worships/rules etc., have been forced on the innocent public and in this way, the public is being devoid of money. Our country has been a land of rishis and munis who have never deceived the people. Instead, they serve the people whole heartedly and maintain overall peace.
Yes, somebody can claim that he has been benefited by wearing gem and present astrology and by following the path of false saints etc. But, it is not a reality, say Vedas. Actually, what happened that the benefit achieved by such people was the result given by God to them based on their pious deeds of previous lives. Vedas –shastras further tell that such benefit was definite and was to be received also in the absence of adoption of the said false path. Otherwise several people adopt the false path which is against the Vedas but only few get the said benefit. If the path had been true according to Vedas then everyone could get the benefit. Our pious human body has been blessed by the God to achieve the true path stated in Vedas by which final liberation is attained.
Future is based on present pious deeds. If anyone wants to make his future bright, he is required to do hardworking, pious deeds to maintain honesty, firm decision and daily worship of God. Yajurveda mantra 7/48 states that human being are free to do pious deeds or sins but result is awarded by God in the shape of pleasure, long, happy life and sorrows respectively. So why to worry about the future and why not we must be worried about our present pious deeds which will make our future bright. It is a fundamental law of Vedas that present pious deeds even and eternal worship of God based on Vedas also destroys the result of previous lives sins which have to be borne in our future or present life. So the energy of thinking of baseless thoughts and worry for future must not be wasted, instead we must do pious deeds in our present time.
Marriage is in the hand of Almighty God. However, God helps those who help themselves. So your parents must do their best to seek a suitable match for you. You must also do daily hawan with Gayatri mantra both times. In the end of hawan, you must pray to God daily for His blessings for the same. It will be much better if you also, chant the Gayatri mantra in heart without speaking it, sitting on any asan, along with its meaning.
Ruchi: Namashkar Swami ji, I have lot of questions to ask but don’t know from where to start…
1. is everything pre-defined based on your Karma in previous life…. if yes then how a person can improve his/her next incarnation? it always makes me confuse please help me understand this. it seems more like a deadlock to me.
2. if everything is karma then why some people who are intelligent, good human, sincere and hard working never achieve what they deserve, and some none deserving gets everything
3. and if there some equivalent to ‘VINAASH KAALE VIPREET BUDHEE’ in Vedas, that makes people do what they should not.
4. what is kalyug? 10th avtaar of Vishnu?
5. did Veda talks all about present situation?
Swami Ram Swarup: My blessings to you. 1 & 2. In this regard, I paste my article in this regard of Karma’s Theory. In case, you still have doubt you may forward your question. 3. The saying quoted by you has not been mentioned in Vedas, but the idea of the saying is true i.e., when some one has to meet with downfall/problems etc., then it happens due to the illusion. As a result, the person does not follow the true path.
4. There is no avtar of God in any Yug etc. I mean to say, Vedas tell that God is one, who is formless, Almighty, omnipresent, creates, nurses and destroys the universe. God never takes avtar because it is not possible by any means. In this connection, I paste here my article, please.
Avtarwad
God is only one who creates the universe and no other can create the universe except God. Please think deeply is any one except God empowered for creation, etc.? The pious qualities of God are unlimited whereas qualities of soul, which resides in human body, are limited. That is why He is God. This fact is also mentioned by Rishi Patanjali in his Yog shastra sutra 1/24, “KALEASHKARAMVIPAKASHYAIHI APRAMRISHTAHA PURUSHVISHESHAHA ISHWARAHA” i.e., He who is not indulged in any sorrows/sufferings (kalesh), in any kind of deed (karma) and result thereof (vipakya), He is supreme in souls and is called Ishwar (God), whereas, soul is indulged in all the said matters according to deeds done in previous, and in the present life. So this is also a difference between God and souls and therefore soul can never be God based on the different qualities.
Amongst unlimited qualities of God, few may be enumerated-that God creates, nurses and destroys the universe. God is omnipresent, omniscient and omnipotent and Almighty, beyond description, beyond imagination, and beyond calculation. Nobody on the earth can deny such qualities, but these qualities are to be discussed and considered deeply and he who does the same is called MUNI as per Vedas and shastras.
Let us think over one quality of God – Being Almighty. Almighty means God has all powers and thus God, to control the universe and to do any kind of deed for the same, can not be dependent on another, at any cost, being Almighty. Again shastras say, which is a true saying too, that there must be reason behind for any creation, matter etc. God is a reason to create the universe. Parents are the reason to give birth to a child.
Ravana took Sita forcefully which became a reason for war between Shri Ram and Ravana etc. So as per Vedas there must be a reason of avtar and after studying eternal knowledge of Vedas and thinking deeply, there seems no reason to take avtar by Almighty God. As in Yajurveda mantra 2/26, so is in Shwetashwaropnishad shlok 6/8 wherein it is mentioned that there is no reason to form a God and thus God is also formless i.e., nobody can make God but God creates universe from non-alive prakriti. Secondly the said Upnishad says that the deeds of God of creation, nursing, and destruction of universe are eternal, natural, and automatic. So naturally God needs no avtar to destroy Kalyug, earth, or devils etc., being Almighty i.e., God has all powers and is independent. Not God but only His powers are enough to control, create, nurse, destroy the universe. That is why Upnishad says that God has no desire to create etc., but it is eternal and natural and this sort of desire is named “IKSHAN” and not desire to create etc.
Suppose God has to kill a devil and He takes avtar and God kills the devils by arrow etc. It means God is not Almighty and independent because God has taken help of Avtar (Human body) and arrow, gun, etc., which is impossible.
This all I have told based on fundamental law of eternal knowledge of four Vedas. Yet if anybody says about avtar then it is their own views and they are satisfied with their views and can not be commented because they could have been realizing at their own but so far as eternal knowledge of Vedas is concerned, Avtar is not possible.
5. Yes, the present worst situation on the earth is due to illusion and Vedas state when there will be illusion, people will not obey the instructions of God mentioned in Vedas or in other holy true books. Then, problem will arise. In this connection especially Atharvaveda kand 5 refers.
C: Namaste Swamiji, I need your advice on a family issue. Recently my father gave me some disturbing news about my husband. My father says that he got the information from a priest who could read or see the future. My father informed me that my husband is lying to me about it and that I should go and check into it. I had asked my husband about this and he said that this is not true. I am upset with my father because I believe that he was encouraging me to be deceitful and to not trust my own husband. Why would he tell me such a negative thing about my husband. Now my husband does not want to go over my parents house to see my father. I am also feeling the same way. My husband and I have been married for 10 years. I believe that my father does not respect my marriage. According to Vedas, how should this be handled?
Swami Ram Swarup: My blessings to you. One should rest be assured that the present astrology has not been mentioned in Vedas and the learned never believe in present astrology. Yajurveda mantra 7/48 clearly states that happiness and sorrows are the result of our previous lives’ deeds and the deeds done in the present life will be faced in the future lives.
Secondly, we are free to do good or bad deeds but result is awarded by Almighty God. When result is awarded by God then who can dare to alter it. So, do not worry about prediction of astrologer but one should worry about his deeds. God being Almighty and omnipresent, always watches us so one should always discharge his moral duties faithfully and always do pious deeds.
So my daughter, you should have never asked your husband about anything because it creates friction etc. Vedas tell that faithful wife must concentrate completely towards her husband’s house. However, she may visit her parents in the event of happiness and sorrows, if she desires. Otherwise, like Mata Sita, she should be fully devoted towards her husband. Secondly, you and your husband must forgive your father and there must not exist hate amongst you all.
Ramesh Mistry: When Hindu dharm was started?
Swami Ram Swarup: Originally, all human beings were Arya. My article about Hindu Dharma is as follows-
About Hindus
The word Hindu was used for all the citizens who lived in India across Sindhu River. This word was used for the first time by Greeks and Unanis. Thereafter Arabians and Farsis used this word. So in reality Hindu means all the citizens, whether Sikh, Muslim, Christian or others, of India. Just like in America all type of citizens live there but are called citizens of USA i.e.,Americans.
Nowadays it is called that Vedas, shastras, Geeta, Ramayana and some other holy books of Sanskrit languages are related to Hindus. Vedas are the ancient holy knowledge of the world given direct from God always, at the time of creation. I have written a lot about this and would request you to please read www.vedmandir.com.
However, shunya (zero) is created but God is not made by anybody else instead Almighty God creates universe. Shunya is also space, which is also created by God. So God is above space, beyond calculation, beyond imagination and beyond description. Yet God has unlimited qualities for
example, Yajurveda mantra 40/8 says that God is everywhere, He has no shape, no nervous system, nobody can make hole in Him, He is Almighty and does not require any assistance from anybody else. He is eternal, self sufficient, cannot be seen with eyes, beyond mind. He creates universe, nurses and destroys and again nurses and again creates. Just a small portion of His power creates universe and His great quality is also this that the whole universe which is seen by us is nothing because the Almighty God is greater than this creation. He gives birth according to our deeds (karmas) He is witness of all karmas being omnipresent and omniscient, etc., etc., that is the God has unlimited qualities and powers.
Alvin Lal: Who was Sita’s Mother and how was she born in Mithila? There are so many stories of this topic on the internet, none of them would tally with the Vedas, Raja Janak was a Vedic follower (I understand), so what to believe?
Swami Ram Swarup: My blessings to you. Name of Sita’s mother is Yogini, wife of King Janak. She took birth from her parents as usual. The other stories should not be believed being unnatural, unscientific and being against the Vedas, please. That is why, Atharvaveda mantra 7/105/1 warns the people not to follow the path of books written by men, in the matter of faith. The mantra further states to follow only divine preach of the Vedas and the Rishis munis, yogis who followed/ still follow the path of Vedas, did Ashtang Yoga practice and as a result, they attained/attain salvation.
Kushal Pal: Ved kis ne bnaye.
Swami Ram Swarup: Vedas have not been written by any Rishi, Muni, Yogi, man, woman etc., but the knowledge of the Vedas is eternal and emanates direct from Almighty God at the beginning of the creation for the benefit of the mankind. The said knowledge emanates and is originated in the heart of four Rishis of non-sexual creation. In this connection, my article is pasted below, please.
Vedas’ Philosophy
God has made universe and blessed us human body to do pious deeds only. He has not made any heaven or hell. All have to face the result of their deeds, good or bad here only, even by taking rebirth. (Rigveda mantra 10/135/1,2)
God has not only made universe but has also given knowledge of four Vedas where answers to your and everyone’s questions have been given. There are four Vedas:
1. Rig Veda – gives knowledge of science, matter of the universe like sun, moon, air body etc., etc.
2. Yajurveda – gives knowledge of all the deeds and duties to be performed by men or women, students, leaders, king, agriculturist etc., etc., etc.
3 Samveda – gives knowledge how to worship God who gives peace and long happy life etc. In this way, details of Yoga philosophy, qualities, supreme deeds and nature of the God are also given.
4 Atharvaveda – gives details of God, medical science and details of medicine etc.
Actually in four Vedas there is unlimited knowledge. Yajurveda mantra 40/8 says that God is everywhere, is Almighty, formless, devoid of nervous system, purest, away from sins and away to face any result of any karmas (deeds), knows every soul, knows what is in everyone’s mind, no body has made God, but God creates universe, has given the eternal knowledge of four Vedas and always gives the said knowledge at the beginning of every universe to know the science and deeds to all concern. Similarly four Vedas say about God that God is an omnipresent, omniscient, formless, beyond imagination and beyond calculation. Actually God has unlimited qualities. There is only one God who creates, nurses, destroys the universe and again creates. Atharvaveda mantra 4/1/1 also says that God gives the knowledge of Vedas at the beginning of the earth to four Rishis of unsexual creation. And thereafter only public listens Vedas through Rishis Munis as yet and become learned. Rig-Veda gives knowledge of Almighty, Yajurveda gives knowledge of karmas (deeds), Samveda tells about worship-Yoga philosophy and Atharvaveda about medicines and God. Actually all Vedas commonly says about God also, so this is about Vedas in short. But the knowledge of Vedas is endless.
It is a fundamental law that knowledge is always given by somebody otherwise knowledge can’t be gained at any cost. If a new born baby is nursed well in a dense jungle and is not educated then he will not be able to gain any knowledge. So we have to think about the origin of the knowledge prevalent in the world today. In this connection all Vedas themselves say that God gives this knowledge to four Rishis. As has also been said by Rishi Patanjali in yoga shastra sutra 1/26, God is first Guru of the four Rishis. Yajurveda mantra 31/7 also refers. This is all in short about Vedas.
The Vedas are not a book, rather it is a knowledge originated in the heart of Rishis. At the time of beginning of the earth those Rishis preached Vedas by mouth and all others remembered the same by mouth at that time there was no pen, pencil, paper, etc. This process of studying Vedas by mouth remained till Mahabharata time. Muni Vyas too remembered Vedas traditionally by mouth. Then Muni Vyas first time wrote the Vedas on Bhoj patra about 5300 years ago. In 16th century when printing press came into existence then the Vedas were printed. Still Vedas are not those which have been printed but Vedas are those which are preached by mouth by an Acharya/yogi and the printed Vedas are called Sanhita.
Now if somebody worships a statue etc., i.e., its their own creation please but Vedas deny. According to Vedas the best worship of the God is Yajyen (Yajna) for which all Vedas are self-proof. Yajurveda mantra 31/16 says that the learned persons worship God by Yajyen.
So many people have asked me that most of the scholars/preachers of different religion state that their religion incorporates all matters of the world including science. What about Vedas? I wrote so many Ved Mantras describing science matters therein. For example, Yajurvaveda Mantra 3/6 states “Ayam Gauhu Swaha Pitram Puraha Prayan Mataram Prishnihi Aakrameet Asadat”.
Meaning= This earth revolves around the Sun in the space and it also rotates on its own axis. Vedas are eternal like God because Vedas emanate from God. Now, according to Vedas, this present creation is about 1 Arab, 96 crores, 8 lakh and about 53,000 years old. So are the Vedas but as said in Rigveda Mantra 10/191/3 the present creation is same as was the previous one and this process of creation is eternal. So are the Vedas which emanate from eternal God. This all concludes that Vedas are the oldest in this creation also and no other book of science, maths or pertaining to spiritualism is written before Vedas.
Like the above example of rotation and revolution of earth, the significance of whole present science is mentioned in Vedas. We can see that whatever is happening in the universe, is all according to the Vedas. For example, occurance of six seasons, actions of Sun, moon, process of death, birth, worship, yoga philosophy, atomic energy, agriculture, animal husbandry, knowledge of politics, administration, architecture, solar energy, knowledge of home appliances like mixer, grinder, business rules, about men, women, children, marriage, Brahamcharya, education, clothes etc., etc., i.e., knowledge right from a straw to Brahma is all in Vedas. God is Almighty and has unlimited powers. So through His power He is able to originate the knowledge of Vedas in the heart of four Rishis without pencil, paper, help of mouth or any other worldly assistance.
We, i.e., the whole world depends on Almighty God but God is forever independent. That is why, He is God. We are the souls who reside in human bodies. We need assistance of senses, perceptions, mind and body to do deeds but not God.
Nowadays, so many saints are writing books. What is the background to right their books? Background is clear that they have first studied or listened the preach from their Gurus, keeping aside the matter of truth or falsehood. And after studying or listening the same, they became able to write the books. So this is also fundamental law, based on which, the ancient Rishis first listened Vedas and when they became learned then only they wrote the Vedic books like Valmikee Ramayana, six shastras, Mahabharata (Bhagwad Geeta), Upanishads, etc., etc. So, first the knowledge of Vedas is initiated in the universe and afterwards other books come into existence.
Somebody may say that human beings have knowledge by their nature to create anything like books etc., but we see that the newly born baby who is nursed in a jungle, in the absence of knowledge of a learned person, he becomes incapable to do anything. Thus, he can’t be M.A, M.Sc, doctor etc. So there are two types of the words and meanings. First, eternal which are from Almighty God and second, natural made by human beings. Eternal word meanings are always from Vedas i.e., from God. After listening/studying Vedas, human-beings become learned and then too based on their own natural knowledge, they make their own words and meanings, literature etc. But it is very much clear that in the absence of knowledge of Vedas, no one can become learned. Nowadays, also people live in dense jungle and do not lead a civilized life because they are not learned as cited above. Vedas are not sects because they emanate direct from God and God is one for all
human beings. God creates sun, moon, air, water, food etc., which are meant for the best use of all human-beings for their long, happy life. So are the Vedas.
So all human beings must accept Vedas as an eternal knowledge from God, for the benefit of whole creation.
Kushagra Sengar: Refering to one of yur answers where in you proclaimed that in Vedas it is justified that a woman even after the death of her hubby can get the semen of some other male to get a sibling, you referred to illustrations of Amba and Ambalika. I wish to ask that would it not be a violation of the sativrat dharma because it would amount to betrayal against the deceased soul as during the course of vivah commitments are made that speaks of eternal commitments transcending across janmas. Also it is bound to have pleasure and that it would again be a violation of the serenity of womanhood as advocated by the Vedas…
Swami Ram Swarup: My blessings to you. The rules made in Vedas do not break the justice. So, to apply the procedure of Niyog, the pativrat dharma is not damaged, if the rules of Vedas are fully obeyed. I mean to say, the woman and man were selected by the elders and with the consent of both man and woman, they must be well educated in the knowledge of Vedas, brahamcharya etc. They, would have been following the performance of daily hawan, Ashtang Yoga Practice, name jaap, they must have full control on their five senses, perceptions and mind. When the lady becomes pregnant, both should cut their physical relation immediately forever and the lady must reside in her husband’s house like Amba, Ambalika, Kunti. Newly born baby should be given the name of the father who is husband of the lady etc. This procedure is adopted with the concurrence of all family members, elders, society not alone. So, at present I never see such widow or her family and so called selected man who have been following strict path of the Vedas.
Amba, Ambalika were learned ladies and the children were got by them from Vyas muniji who was renounced Ved mantra drishta Rishi and Yogi. He has written Mahabharat (Bhagwad Geeta) and Vedant Shastra.
Kunti who was also a vidushi got children from a Rishi/Yogi named Surya dev, Dharam Raj, Indra Dev etc. Now, from where such Yogis and such Vidushi women will be made available? So, due to the lack of knowledge of Vedas, such procedure is totally not applicable nowadays because mostly the people now see the lady for sexual enjoyment etc., only which is a sin and vice-versa.
