Anonymous: Pranam Swamiji, I would humbly like to ask a question regarding the Puranas. I have heard that the Puranas were considered to be true until the birth of Swami Dayanand Saraswati. However, I am confused about the beliefs of great acharyas like Adi Shankaracharya and Sri Ramanujacharya, who lived in ancient times and believed in Puranas and deities like Shiva and Vishnu. Does this mean that they were sinners for their beliefs, and that everyone who believed in the Puranas before Swami Dayanand Saraswati’s birth was also a sinner? Additionally, is it possible that only one personality can be considered true in many thousands of years? I would appreciate any clarification you can provide on this matter.
Thank you for your time and guidance.
Swami Ram Swarup: My blessings to you. Conclusion of discovery of purans which are made by human-beings reveals that mostly purans are not true being against the Vedas. In the beginning of the earth when knowledge of four Vedas emanates direct from God and is originated in the heart of four rishis. There was no any other path of worship existed. Even todays’ purans were not there. Purans have been written in this yuga only. So, knowledge of Vedas which emanates direct from God and not anybody else, is only eternal and everlasting and true. No other man-made book or knowledge can be compared with Vedas.
