Swami Ram Swarup: Valmiki Ramayan was written by Rishi Valmiki ji in treta yug i.e., about 1 crore 81 lakhs 49 thousand 80 years ago. Secondly, divine Sanskrit language used in Vedas only was available at the time of creation in Sanskrit language and Valmiki Ramayan and Manu smriti was also written in Sanskrit language. Sanskrit language is our mother tongue. In Vedas there is preach of arya and anarya i.e., God preaches that arya and anarya existed right from the beginning of the earth. Arya means who follow Vedic path and he is religious and pious man and woman. Anaraya means he who is a devil. So arya used to maintain the record of the years, month, week, days etc., right from the beginning of the earth that is why, the calculation of the years when Valmiki Ramayan was written by Rishi Valmiki ji is available as quoted above.
