Deen: Please enlighten us on the current issue of Ram Setu.
Swami Ram Swarup: It is a hard fact that Shri Ram, Shri Krishna were born on this pious land of India and Shri Ram crossed the ocean to reach Lanka to fight with Ravanna. I will try to give clear picture in my article on this web site shortly.
Dr. Vivek Arya: My question is Vedant sutra of Shankracharya 1/3/38 says that women and shudra should not be allowed to read or hear Vedas and if they do so pierce their ear. Is it true? I had heard that many Ved mantras say that this mantra is for women. What are they?
Swami Ram Swarup: All the ancient and present Rishis-Munis, based on their hard study of Vedas and practice of Ashtang yoga philosophy. And after realization of Almighty God too, accept that Vedas are self-proof i.e., to decide truth. Then shastras are considered as secondary proof. Even in any shastras, Upanishad or any holy book if there is mentioning of any matter which does not tally with Vedas. i.e., not acceptable and is considered false, and could have been added by any unauthentic ordinary man to mislead. I mean to say when four Vedas which have emanated direct from God, does not tell the above story but tell that the knowledge of four Vedas is equally applicable to human beings either male or female, then we must obey Vedas. Moreover the Vedanta shastra sutra 1/3/38 also does not tell that women and shudra does not read Vedas. Sutra states that he who does not have the quality to observe truth, Brahamcharya, simple living, high thinking, i.e., away from fraud, jealousy, ego and pride etc., he does not deserve to listen the knowledge of Vedas. Nirukta Brahminn Granth also states that the knowledge of Vedas must not be given to the above described persons. Geeta shloka 18/67 also states that he who is not Tapsvi and not interested in Vedas, does not serve the acharya and is not eager to gain the knowledge of Vedas, he must not be provided with Vedas’ knowledge. So everybody away from above described illusion is entitled to listen to the knowledge from learned acharya of Vedas.
Capsi: Thank you Swamiji for your replies in the past. I am passing through an extremely difficult period of time. My ‘Isht Devta’ (favourite God) is Bhagwan Shree Ganpati. I wish to meditate on him. But everytime I try to focus, I am unable to fully concentrate on Him. I have no desire to live but I know that ending my life would cause me to come back to this dirty world, which I don’t want to happen. Please suggest some methods to be able to concentrate better on my God. I have lost my health due to my emotional problems and cannot take any more tension. Yet my life is such that, I cannot escape from my current situation, cannot take a break and can no longer fight this life. Please advice as to how to concentrate/meditate better.
Swami Ram Swarup: Rig-veda mantra 10/135/1-3 state that we have to face the result of our past deeds good or bad in this life and the said type of deeds done here will be faced in the next birth in the shape of happiness and sorrows respectively. So first of all we must not blame anyone because it is our deed which we have to face. However, the difficult period is limited. As regards Bhagwan Shree Gannpati it is not mentioned in Vedas. Vedas is the preach direct from Almighty God wherein only formless God who creates, nurses and destroys the universe, is to be worshipped. Vedas tell Yaj, name -jaap and practice of ashtang yoga under guidance of an experienced acharya, is the best worship of God. However, it is up to you, what you accept, I already told that even to think about suicide is itself is a grave sin. The bad result of which will be borne in next life. We have come here to worship Almighty God to burn our previous bad deeds to make our life happy and not to generate more sins. So God is one who is the creator. And to concentrate on the formless Almighty God one will have to follow the Vedas, please. If you’re ready for the same, then either you can come here to take further guidance to meditate properly or seek a local experienced acharya who knows Vedas and ashtang yoga philosophy. If you still want to continue your present worship then it is up to you, please. Please write your views.
Deepak Bhai: Someone told me as I used to do havan in miti ka bartan so it can call atrupt aatma is it true?
Swami Ram Swarup: No, please it is totally wrong, being against the Vedas, shastras etc. When a person is dead then his body is burnt in pyre and the soul comes out from body. Soul thus remains under control of “sutratma air”, in shushupt i.e., coma- like stage. After thirteen days the soul takes new birth, then how the soul can come?
Dharmendra: Please tell what information is given in Veda about BHARAT and is it true that Ved contains knowledge of aeroplane, refrigerator, microwave, etc.
Swami Ram Swarup: Yes, please, Vedas contain knowledge about aeroplanes, etc. Vedas do not tell about any person, nation or city etc. There is no proper name of anyone mentioned in Vedas. Vedas also do not mention any history or story of any kind etc. Vedas contain knowledge, form of deeds and matter of worship etc. So there is no description of Bharatvarsh in Vedas. However, there has been a tradition of our Rishis to give the name to any child, place, river etc., from
Vedas. Thus we are lucky that our ancient Rishis named our country as Bharat.
Bharati is in accordance with Rigveda mantra 10/110/8. In The mantra the words are “AA NO YAJYAM BHARTI TISTRO DEVI SARASWATI”. So our country has been named on the base of divine and the most pious word Bharati.
Maharishi Yaska in his book Nirukta 8/13 has stated the meaning of Bharati:
“BHARAT AADITYASTASYA BHAHA” i.e., Bharat means aditya i.e., sun. The meaning of ‘bha’ is light. So the Bharat means sun and its light bha is Bharati. Therefore the lusture (view of) of sun is Bharat and the light of Bharat is Bharati. Bharati means culture. Therefore according to the Vedas the culture of Bharat (Indian culture) is Ved, shastra, upnishad, Bhagwatgeeta, etc.
During partition some part of Bharat has been named as Pakistan and thereafter Bangladesh and whole world accepts and gives honour to the name. The citizens of
Pakistan and Bangladesh rightly honour their country’s name. So in India too there must not be any problem to regard Bharat Varsh or Bharat Mata as typed.
Why Bharat Mata? The answer is enlightened in Yajurveda mantra 25/17. Mantra is:
TANNO VATTO MAYOBHU VAATU BHESHJAM TANMATA PRITHIVEE TATPITA DYAUHU
TAD GRAAVANNAHA SOMSUTO MAYOBHUVASTADASHVINA SHRINNUTAM DHISHNNAYA YUVAM.
Meaning:
(ASHVINNA) = O! Preacher
(DHISHNYA) = as earth holds us to nurse, you hold us to preach
(YUVAM) = you
(SHRINNUTAM) = you listen (i.e., whatever you have taught us up till now, please listen from us)
(NAH) = for us i.e., as for us
(VAATAH) = air (pollution free air)
(TAT) = that
(BHESHJAM) = medicine
(MAYOBHU) = pleasure giving
(VAATU) = is procured (i.e., makes available)
(TAT) = That
(MATA) = respected mother
(PRITHIVI) = wide spread extensive earth and
(TAT) = the earth
(VAATU) = is procured (i.e., makes available)
(PITA) = by our father
(DYAUHU) = sun
(TAT) = that
(VAANTU) = is procured (i.e., makes available)
(SOMSUTAH) = the earth which is pleasure giving, providing herbs, shrubs, cereals, etc., by cultivation
(MAYOBHUVAH) = gives merriment
Idea: Fundamental law of Vedas states that He is our Father and She is our Mother who nurses us. Sun is our father in the absence of which there will be no lives and Motherland is our respected mother by which we get means of living and She too gives us shelter to build houses, etc.
In this mantra, a student states to his Acharya/teacher that O teacher! You are like an earth which holds us and all matters required to live upon. Kindly, listen our chapter which you have taught before.
The air causes rain, with the result crops, greeneries, herbs, shrubs i.e., vegetation grows. That means all such vegetation is made available to us by our respected Motherland and shining sun. Such vegetation is always pleasure giving, means of living to attain a long, happy life.
The above eternal mantra has a wonderful idea/knowledge that whatever we learn from Acharyas, teachers, lecturers, professor etc., that must be well studied, understood and held in action. Thereafter the same chapter must be briefed before the said Acharya, etc.
That is why, it has been a tradition that the teachers have been taking examination of their students and the eternal said law of Vedas including several laws are still in force traditionally, which may be seen in school, college, universities where teachers take unit tests, half-yearly exams, annual exams and viva, etc. And it is our bad luck that at present there is no preach of Vedas and no Vedas’ examination exists and thus we have lost our eternal knowledge which has ruined our country.
Gaurav: Do you follow the principles of mund and completely disregard the puranas?
Swami Ram Swarup: Study of purannas reveals that they are not according to Vedas’ philosophy. So all learned acharyas of Vedas do not accept the purannas.
Shweta Choudhary: Adarniya swamiji .I am a management student and I want to know what is written in Vedas, Puranas, Upanishads, Ramayana, and Mahabharat etc. about management. What they suggest about managing life,
society, nature, organizations?
Swami Ram Swarup: Vedas contain complete knowledge. So the above matters mentioned by you are also in Vedas, please. Vedas always tell to know the duties mentioned in Vedas and to discharge them faithfully. So the nature of pious deed/duties is a lengthy matter which can’t be explained here. However, you are advised to read one of my books to gain the knowledge of Vedas and the said matters.
Navneet: I practice gayatri mantra at 5 am, and after doing the jaap I go back to sleep, because i have to catch up with my sleep. I go to bed late because of long work hours. Am I making a mistake? Or not?
Swami Ram Swarup: There is a basic principle of Rigveda that everybody must wake up early in the morning, better at about 4 O’ clock but latest before sunrise. So, you wake up at a good time and atmosphere.
Secondly, Vedas tell that no one should take sleep after sunrise. So, please try to obey the Vedas. You’re appreciated for doing Gayatri jaap in the morning, as said by you above but after jaap you again go to bed which is a problem. Please write when you go to bed in the night first.
Vikas L. Acharya: In what form do we vision DEVI-DEVTAS? Are they in body form as we human being, or are they only name’s of different energies working in our body and nature (earth)?
Swami Ram Swarup: This question has been replied several times on this web site, please. There are only five alive devtas to be worshipped. The meaning of worship in Hindi is “pooja’. In Sanskrit, pooja means to give respect and services. Five devtas are: mother, father, atithi (learned of at least one Veda), acharya (learned of all four Vedas and ashtnag yoga philosophy), God. Then there are thirty-three Devtas which are non-alive and not to be worshipped. Description of which has been already given. No other devtas or devis have been mentioned in Vedas, please.
Vinay Khanna: May I request to let me know why there are 108 Beads in Jap Mala of we Hindus. I am dead sure our ancient people have studied before introducing it. Secondly uptill now I got all answers scientific & this also must have scientific base.
Swami Ram Swarup: 108, less or more have been made by the saints at their own but its description is not in Vedas. By these beads, one is able to count the number as to how many times (number) he has done the jaap of name of God etc. However, the best jaap is done through breathing and exhalation through respiration.
Vijay Sagar: I have heard from a Shashtriji that ordinary people cannot chant Gayatri Mantra as it is very powerful and it can be harmful. It should only
Chanted by a Brahmin, is it true? Please give your opinion.
Swami Ram Swarup: No please. It is wrong that ordinary people can’t chant the gayatri mantra. Nobody is a learned by birth but after doing hard work one becomes learned. Moreover, the knowledge of all four Vedas is equally applicable for all human beings. Only guidance of a learned acharya is required. In Vedas, there is no caste system. It is only based on our deeds.
Sadhana Kulkarni: For Ganpati pooja where I will get patri-durva, tulasi, bel , shami, and ashtagandh, Gejavastra (cotton) etc.. I am staying in Dallas, Texas, USA.
Swami Ram Swarup: For the material quoted by you, you can contact Indian general stores, either they will provide you the material or they shall guide you about it. However, Vedas tell to worship Almighty, formless God, who creates, nurses and destroys the universe and again creates it.
Tariq: If a baby is as a Muslim and thereafter he or she is converted in to a particular religion i.e. Muslim, Hindu, Christian, etc by the external desire. Your comment on this please.
Swami Ram Swarup: Waalekam-Salaam, my dear. This is a well known fact in the universe that God has not made sects. Our fore-fathers/prophets have made the sects to teach the people easily etc. As is stated in Quran-Sharif, all our religious holy books also state that there is only one Almighty formless God who creates, nurses and destroys the universe. So, conversions at this belated stage is actually not required. One can worship God is his own religion. So, if anyone changes his religion at his own, then it will be his/her own wish. However, forcible conversions should not be accepted.
One thing more, knowledge of Vedas and ashtang yoga mentioned in Vedas is not a sect. Vedas emanate at the beginning of the earth when no present sects existed. So the knowledge of Vedas can be listened and practice of ashtang yoga can be done in
every sect. For the same, no conversion is required.
Tariq: The meaning of Bishnu Yash, his father and mother’s name, village name etc indicates that Prophet Md is also described in various Hindu scriptures. Please share your comments.
Swami Ram Swarup: The word “Bishnu” is actually spelt as “Vishnu”. The word Vishnu is made from root word “Vishlari” which means omnipresent. As you know that there is only one God, but His names are unlimited according to His qualities. So, one quality of God is also that He is omnipresent. Therefore, Vishnu is the name of the one Almighty God who has no father and mother, because God is not made by anyone.
Secondly, Vishnu name can be spelt in respect of any human-beings as well who can never be called God because he can never be omnipresent.
As far as Vedas, shastras, Upanishads, Valmiki Ramayana, Mahabharata (Bhagwad Geeta) Tulsi Ramayana and other ancient holy books are concerned which I have studied till date, the name of Hazrat Mohhammad Sahib has not been mentioned therein, please.
Ganesh: I saw a serial in the TV, where they have shown about a shastra which was written by King Rawan of Sri Lanka. I would like to know what is the name of that shastra?
Swami Ram Swarup: There are two types of books at present. One written by rishis-Munis, great ancient saints etc. Secondly, those which have been written by ordinary men-women. The books written by men/women can’t be considered authentic, please. So if there is a book in which it is stated that king Ravanna has written such shastra, the same is not authentic. The character of Ravanna written in Valmiki Ramayana, which is an authentic holy book, does not state that Ravanna wrote a shastra.
Krishan Chander: I am a very busy man, I can give much time in meditation. Can you please tell that in how many days can I achieve peace? Means
In how many days and how many hours should I practice the astang yog to get mental satisfaction?
Swami Ram Swarup: It depends on an aspirant that for how long he can do ashtang yoga practice daily. However, one hour in the morning and one hour in the evening are sufficient for a beginner. The ashtang yoga philosophy however, must be learnt from an acharya who knows four Vedas and ashtang yoga philosophy. The aspirant must do practice ashtang yoga in his guidance.
Sarita: In my dreams I see many giant & large snakes in ocean and ponds. I get scared. What does it mean?
Swami Ram Swarup: Though dreams are false but still are not good to be seen. So, one should do havan and Gayatri mantra jaap daily with prayer to God to stop, dreams.
Sarita: How we can teach spiritual education to children?
Swami Ram Swarup: It will be better if you seek a local acharya who knows Vedas, so that more family may contact him to listen Vedas’ preach at least once or twice in a week. You must also perform daily havan even with gayatri mantra by which your children will be inspired. If possible one or two pages of Vedic holy books must be read before the children. I have written some Vedic spiritual books, list of which is on the site.
Nayeem: I have heard of many types of yogas. I wanted to know which is the oldest form of yoga and/or which is best for attaining peace of mind?
Swami Ram Swarup: At the beginning of earth, the knowledge of Vedas emanates direct from God. About one arab 96 crores, 8 lakhs and 53 thousands years ago, this universe was created, when knowledge of Vedas emanated. In Vedas, only Ashtang yoga philosophy has been mentioned. Vedas are self-proof. So there is only one ashtang yoga philosophy which is authentic. In ashtang yoga there are eight parts of yoga philosophy, i.e., Yam, niyam, asan, prannayam, pratyahar, dharnna, dhyan and Samadhi. Details of the same have been briefed by me in Patanjal Yog-darshan— Pt I & II with Hindi detailed description.
Nayeem: I request you to provide me the correct breathing technique at the time of meditation/pranayam?
Swami Ram Swarup: Though your desire to learn prannayam philosophy is highly appreciated but the same technique can only be preached in person, please. It can not be described here or in the book. It must always be learnt personally. Otherwise, it will not be beneficial. However, to know yoga philosophy in detail, please read my book stated above.
Nayeem: I wanted to know which posture is best for meditation/pranayam; Padamasan, Shavasan, or Ekpadasan?
Swami Ram Swarup: There are several asans which are being preached nowadays. But according to Patanjal Yog Shastra, 10 to 12 asans are sufficient to do daily. When an aspirant does asan under guidance of a yoga teacher, he automatically tells about the posture. One thing more that the main asan is siddhasan and thereafter Padamasan. So prannayam, meditation must be done on
Siddhasan or Padamasan. Such knowledge must be taken in person from the yoga teacher who knows Vedas and ashtang yoga philosophy.
Nayeem: What is the breathing technique during asanas?
Swami Ram Swarup: While doing pavanmukta asan breathing is stopped for some time. In other asan there must be normal breathing. So every asan or knowledge of Yog Philosophy must be learnt in person from the yoga teacher as stated above. Therefore presence of the teacher is essential.
Nayeem: Please suggest any one asana and one pranayama that need to be done daily?
Swami Ram Swarup: Siddasan is good and lom-vilom prannayam in the beginning is also good. But the same must be learnt from the yoga teacher personally. I am away and can’t teach you from here, please.
Anita: What precautions should a pregnant lady take during eclipse?
Swami Ram Swarup: Grahann must not be seen direct from eye. Better if the lady remains in the house for that particular time.
Sonal: Is this mentioned in Vedas that Brahamans is the upper most cast and these cast were created by GOD?
Swami Ram Swarup: Vedas tell that the caste is not by birth. Please read the article on caste system.
N Sriram: I heard from my Guru who taught me dowsing technique in 1998 that everything in this world gets destroyed once every 17,000 years. He also told that nothing ever happened on this earth as depicted in Ramayana or Mahabharat as these are only stories and not real life stories as it has been written.
Swami Ram Swarup: The views quoted by you are not according to Vedas and science. There are three matters which are eternal and are not destroyed i.e., Almighty God, souls and Prakriti. Prakriti is non-alive matter whereas God and souls are alive. From Prakriti, this universe is created by God. At a fixed time, automatically the universe is destroyed and turned again into Prakriti. Again from Prakriti, the world is created and this process is eternal, immortal and will remain forever. So the matter changes its shape but is indestructible. Human-bodies have also limited time and is destroyed, but will not take time of 17,000 years. As regards creation, it has time of about 4 arab years. At present about one arab, 97 crores have passed of its creation. The said statement is totally based on Vedas and is therefore true. Mahabharat and Valmiki Ramayana were written by Vyas Muni and Rishi Valmiki jee respectively. A rishi never writes a false story or drama, etc. as he has no time for such work. So, the said epics are true. It is sad that nowadays people have forgotten the Vedas and the life history of ancient, true rishis, munis and false self-made Gurus who are against the Vedas have spread illusion all over with the result the truth has been hidden.
Dipendra: What is mukti? What is shanti? How to get both?
Swami Ram Swarup: Mukti means to be free like a prisoner who is freed from jail. We the human-beings are bound in the good or bad deeds, to be faced. Therefore we sometimes feel happiness and sometimes sorrow due to the effect of good or bad deeds of our previous lives’. We are still doing pious deeds or sins in our present life which are to be faced in future births. So when an aspirant seeks shelter of a learned acharya, he starts real worship of God and burns all his previous and present good/bad deeds. Thus, he becomes free from facing result of any deed which is called Mukti (salvation).
When the above aspirant controls his bad desires he feels peace (shanti), other wise people are always worried to fulfill their desires.
Aarti Pandya: Since last 2-3 years I have developed much interest in our Vedas. I would like to study them in depth. Please guide me how should I go ahead? I would like to do research on our Shastras also but would like to start with Vedas. Please suggest me some good books or other availabilities from which I can get the information. My mother tongue is Gujarati but can understand English and Hindi and also Sanskrit.
Swami Ram Swarup: Your desire is highly appreciated because every person gets human body for the same, as is quoted in Vedas. Actually, an experienced, learned acharya of Vedas is needed in this way to preach the Vedas. For-example— Shri Ram listened to Vedas from his Guru Vasisth. Sita mata listened to Vedas from her Guru Shatanandjee etc. Now-a-days, books are printed yet the fundamental law of God that Vedas are to be listened from an acharya, are unchangeable. However, before listening the Vedas, you must study some Vedic books which will help you to understand Vedas’ philosophy and to get peace of mind. I have written some Hindi and English books on Vedas and would advise you to study some of them. List of books is given below, please. After regular study of the books, then the matter of listening Vedas philosophy will be discoursed through e-mail, please.
As regards shastras, shastras were written by the Rishis only after studying Vedas’ first. So when you’ll be able to study Vedas then you’ll automatically be able to understand six shastras and even all holy books of the world.
Deepak Bhai: If u say Krishna was only yogi and everything happen with Parmatma’s wish than how come Krishna got so much name and fame, without wish of God?
Swami Ram Swarup: Yes, Shri Krishna Maharaj was a complete yogi and Almighty God manifested within him. He was not God but equivalent to God as God gives all His powers to such yogis. But still one power to create and destroy the universe is not given to the yogi. Everything does not happen with Parmatma’s wish. According to Yajurveda mantra 7/48, we, the human-beings are free to do pious deeds or sins but result is awarded by God in the shape of happiness and sorrows respectively. Names are given by parents or society at their own and not by God.
K K Khatri: I want to know that, if a guru taking whiskey, meal and making fashion giving his money on interest then is it possible that he can make good for others? Should we have to faith on him?
Swami Ram Swarup: The qualities quoted by you are not of a true guru but ordinary man who is against the Vedas, eternal religion and laws of Almighty God. I believe your soul (ATMA) also denies such gurus that is why you have put your Good question please. Please read the article on About Gurus and True Saints.
Mahesh: Where should be the place for pitar devata?
Swami Ram Swarup: In Vedas, pitr means parents, grand father, grand mother etc., and if they are alive, they will live with family. Second meaning of pitr is acharya (spiritual master) who lives at his place. Third meaning of pitr is the elderly people who have gone to heavenly abode and they have either taken next birth or attained salvation according to their deeds and for the said pitr, the question to make any place does not arise.
Anonymous: Should married couples, who live close by the groom’s parents be consulting them for advice, or discuss matters amongst one another first before seeking parental advice? Should they tell all good and bad events to the parents or consult each other first?
Swami Ram Swarup: Yes, the couple must take advise from parents and even from learned persons. It will be better if the couple first discusses the matter between themselves and then goes to parents for final advice. Yes, the couple must tell Good or bad events to the parents but within their defined limits.
Anonymous: I have been following your preaching for the last few years. Can I visit ashram for a week or so to gain knowledge?
Swami Ram Swarup: I am glad that you have obeyed and are working hard as a student which is a Vedic requirement.
There is no objection about your coming here but first permission of your parents is essential as well. I hope you’ll get the permission to come here for a week. If your parents permit you to come alone then you’re welcome here. My blessings to you for a long, happy life.
Dr Vivek Arya: A question about Bhaishya puran..
Swami Ram Swarup: There 18 Puranns but the learned of Vedas do not accept them as authentic being mostly against the Vedas. Avtar of Almighty God is not possible, please.
Shailesh Garg: The most of the population today is “White” man and “Yellow – or Mongoloid” man. However our ancient records do not talk about these races. We have Vanar, Asur, Daitya, Arya, Naga etc. who are described, but none of these match either White or Yellow races.
Swami Ram Swarup: Ancient culture means Mahabharata epic containing only 10,000 shlokas, Valmiki Ramayana and other holy books written by ancient Rishis only. 18 Puranns are not considered authentic by the learned of Vedas. Most ancient holy and scientific books are four Vedas i.e., Rig-Veda, Yajurveda, Sam-Veda and Atharvaveda which do not tell your above quoted views, please. So we were not vanar and nags. Devtas and Asur are still there. Devta means he who has controlled his five senses, five perceptions and mind and always does pious deeds according to Vedas. Asur ( Rakshasa)— devil means who does sins and is always against the
Vedas. Arya means the said devta. So devta, Arya, asur/Daitya are still there. We were men and women and will remain as it is according to the tradition of the creation of God. Creation is unchangeable, say Vedas, as per Rig-Veda mantra 10/190/3.
Shailesh Garg: The histories of these White or Yellow races is untraceable beyond last 5000 years.
Swami Ram Swarup: The birth is according to the atmosphere and environment. So colour of the human-beings is according to atmosphere, environment and breed. So colours like black, yellow and white etc., are accordingly.
Shailesh Garg: Who are these people? Are these also originated from Manu or they are some genetically modified people probably by an alien race?
Swami Ram Swarup: Manu was a Rishi and king of this earth. No Rishi or man can originate human-beings. The creation is the deed of only Almighty God.
Shailesh Garg: There is remarkable amount of aggression in White and Yellow races, almost equal to carnivorous animals. They have this tendency to hog all resources, and are very intolerant to other people’s viewpoint. They are almost completely focused on material aspects. These qualities are “Non-aryan”. Is it possible that these are created by scheming aliens to defeat and dehumanize Aryans?
Swami Ram Swarup: Aggression is always due to uncontrol over five senses, five perceptions and mind. The same is further due to the lack of knowledge of Vedas, worship and practice of yoga philosophy. Aggression is also due to the previous lives’ bad deeds. So, one must control the anger by doing daily worship of God according to Vedas. So, it is not created by aliens etc.
Surekha: Why is there sadness?
Swami Ram Swarup: Sadness is due to the illusion and effect of previous lives’ deeds. One must do hard work to earn more and more money. Still money must not be spent unnecessary. One must do name jaap of God —-“OM” daily. In addition, he must do havan daily from Gayatri mantra with its meaning. Illusion is over by the said pious deeds and study of Vedas and holy books.
Sunil: Durga bhavani has power in his hand what is the power name?
Swami Ram Swarup: Sunil jee, according to Vedas, you have to worship only one formless. Almighty God who creates, nurses and destroys the universe. Vedas are self-made proof. The description of Durga, Bhawani is not there in Vedas, please.
Hemant: Aadarniya Swamiji When each and every person may he be an ordinary man or a saint or mahapursh, once the atma leaves this physical body there is no relation left back with the people he was with. Then also today many people have practice of rituals performing for ancestors, etc? Is this correct? And many people remember many saints, etc. They usually offer any sort of services to them. My question is when the soul leaves this physical body & departs & gets next birth according to his karmas than why should we really remember them? Or in case of saints we the souls leaves their physical body & departs they have said to attained moksha or salvation and have united with the Almighty God then if we worship & ask them for anything, I think so that this would obstruct the path. Therefore I think so that we should not worship but we can remember them & their followings which they have laid for us (in case of Sant & mahatmas). Please explain me is this correct or please guide me in this matter as stated in Vedas. When a soul leaves physical body, the soul gets next birth according to his karmas. My question here is do bhoot, pisach exist? If yes, how they take birth and how they die? In Hinduism there are said to exist 84 lakh yoonis in which the soul roams according to his karmas. Do soul become bhoot, pisach? If yes how? And how are they relived from this yooni?
Swami Ram Swarup: About the practice of rituals performed for ancestors, it is not according to Vedas, please. Because when soul leaves the body then body is burnt here and soul takes next birth (next body) of man, woman, animal, birds, etc., after thirteen days of death. Within these thirteen days, soul remains in ‘Sushupt stage’ i.e., comma like stage. So the soul even can’t be ghost etc., and can’t harm anyone. Without body soul can’t even eat etc.
So, services to the departed soul, is against the Vedas and is not therefore correct. We remember the departed souls only for their pious deeds. For-example, parents gave us birth and nursed us etc. The great saints or dignitaries like Shri Ram, Shri Krishna, Swami Dayanand etc., are remembered only for their greatest deeds which they did for themselves as well as for public to maintain peace, to unite nation, to kill the sorrows of the public etc. They gave a lot of spiritual as well as knowledge of worldly pious duties etc. So we remember them to follow their preach. However, their worship or prayer to them will be of no use please, according to Vedas.
So no question of bhoot, pishach etc., please. This all is blind faith. You’re advised to
read my book—– “VEDAS – A DIVINE LIGHT”.
Hemant: In Hindu dharma panchayatan is mentioned and thirty three crore Gods are mentioned to exist and most of the people worship these sagun form of Gods. One you have answered me that there is only one Ishwar who doesn’t take avatar or incarnate than in Hindu dharma lord Vishnu has taken Dashavatar, Lord Mahadev has taken twelve avatar and so on my question is if Almighty God doesn’t take avatar than who are these Gods?
Swami Ram Swarup: s is also mentioned in yajurveda mantra 40/8, there is only one formless, omnipresent, almighty God who is only to be worshipped. Due to lack of knowledge of Vedas, for the last about five thousand years i.e., after Mahabharata war, the study of Vedas has been forgotten and therefore the man-made worships have taken place. In Vedas, there are only five alive devtas. i.e., mother (who gives birth), father (who nurses), Atithi (who has at least knowledge of one Veda), Acharya, i.e., spiritual Guru (who is learned of four Vedas and ashtang yoga philosophy) and fifth is the Supreme Almighty God. So we have to give regard to first four, as they give us birth, education and acharya even gives salvation and the fifth who is the Supreme God is only to be worshipped.
Beside the said five alive devtas, there are only thirty-three non-alive devtas like
eight vasus, i.e., earth, sun, etc., eleven rudra i.e., ten prann and soul, twelve aditya i.e., 12 months, then Prajapati i.e., Yajyen and Indra i.e., the agni which is seen in the sky.
So no question of thirty-three crore devtas, as the same have not been mentioned in the Vedas, please.
Anil Kumar: One Guruji told the mantra and with that mantra, we have to do meditation. While in Dhyan, some automatic movements happen and we feel like Kundalani Jagran. Can you comment on this way of meditation please?
Swami Ram Swarup: Kundalini jagran is not possible by repeating mantra only, it requires practice of ashtang yoga philosophy also, please. So is the case of Samadhi. Samadhi is attained by practicing YAM, NIYAM, ASAN, PRANAYAM, PRATYAHAR, DHARNNA, DHYAN, AND THEN SAMADHI. Samadhi means the control on five senses, five perceptions, mind and then the realization of God. The said statement is according to four Vedas please which cannot be denied being authentic. According to Vedas, avtar is also not possible, please.
Dhanesh Padhya: I have started doing havan daily. I am trying to do it twice. Thank you for showing the right way to worship God.
Swami Ram Swarup: NOT ONLY ME BUT REALLY Almighty God is pleased from those who perform daily havan as told by God Himself in Vedas. So I also bless you for a long happy life to do real worships of God which also spreads knowledge of Vedas and gives benefit to the public.
Vinod: I am from Pakistan. Why are we prohibited to eat meat? In Geeta or other holy books, I have not read whether we are forbidden to eat meat.
Swami Ram Swarup: Mostly the people give statements without studying Vedas. Vegetarian food like milk, ghee, curd and all vegetables, etc., IS ALLOWED BY God in Vedas. So question of killing the live vanaspati does not arise. On the contrary, God does not permit non-vegetarian, say all the Vedas. The knowledge of Vedas emanates direct from God at the time of beginning of earth. So in this creation, the Vedas are the oldest knowledge originated about one arab 97 crore years ago. In all four Vedas, God has prohibited non-vegetarian, please.
Alvin Lal: What is the kartaveya of a Guru? How many times should a Guru ask for Chanda or Bhiksha?
Swami Ram Swarup: Duty of a guru is to preach a disciple about the knowledge of four Vedas and Ashtang Yoga Philosophy. The same knowledge is required to know all matters (Science etc.,) of the Universe, duties of human-beings and real worship of God. The said preach is required to obtain the motto of human- life i.e., to burn all the previous/present lives’ sins to attain salvation while discharging all moral duties. A true Guru who is learned of Vedas will never ask for Chanda etc. However, in the ancient times when students lived in Gurukul either poor or of middle class or belonging to royal family etc., then only the disciples used to go to take Bhiksha (for survival) only from three family houses and not more than three.
Alvin Lal: When doing daan to poor people or purohit/pandits/archarya’s, say if do a daan of rice and lentils along with money. Does the pandit then take some out from his daan or dachina and give some back to you? Is this tradition or prampara? For example a pandit performs a puja at your house and at the end we give a dachina of rice, lentils, sugar, money, clothes, etc. Does he then give some of the rice or lentils back from his dachina?
Swami Ram Swarup: Procedure of Daan (rice, lentils etc.) was not in force in the ancient times as the said procedure is not mentioned in Vedas, please. Dakshinna is only awarded to a learned acharya of Vedas and yoga philosophy when he performs holy Yajyen and preaches Vedic knowledge. A purohit who knows Vedas is also entitled for dakshinna when he performs havan and pious sanskar.
Alvin Lal: I have been doing hawan as mentioned by you using Gayatari Mantra. I am very grateful for this. However at the start (where you say to chant Gayatri three times by heart, and focus between the eyes) it is really hard to focus the mind, as the mind keeps wandering here and there, keeps getting distracted by sounds. What can we do to focus properly then perform Hawan?
Swami Ram Swarup: To focus properly between the two eyebrows (Agya chakra) one will have to learn and act on ashtang yoga philosophy from yam, niyam, asan, prannayam, pratyahar and dharnna. When perfection is attained in dharna then naturally the meditation (concentration between two eyebrows) will be attained. I would advise you to read my Hindi book— Patanjal-Yog Darshan (Hindi Vyakhya Sahit)—– Pt.I & II in which the ashtang yoga matter has been briefed in detail. However, still one should sit on asan to concentrate between two eyebrows with a deep thinking of the Gayatri mantra with its meaning. If you can come here, then I can explain all in person.
Alvin Lal: When doing Hawan, as a married person with two kids under three, is it better to do Hawan as a family or as one person, i.e. myself?
Swami Ram Swarup: Actually the havan is meant for family. It gives unlimited benefits to the Yajmaan and his family.
Alvin Lal: When praying to god which side should the wife sit, left or right side?
Swami Ram Swarup: Better if she sits on left side, please.
Alvin Lal: Scientists have common knowledge that pretty much the right side of the human brain gets utilized the most, the left side does very little if nothing at all. Is there any yoga practise or anything mentioned in the Vedas, that we can use to train ourselves to use both sides of the brain thereby giving us a higher level of intelligence and therefore a better understanding of God?
Swami Ram Swarup: Actually only some important cells of brain work daily of a normal person. When an aspirant does Yajyen and ashtang yoga practice then a day comes when his several cells of brain and even body are awakened and at this stage the whole mind starts working. In yog shastra, the said stage of a Yogi is stated, “RITAMBHARA TATRA PRAGYA” i.e., the mind of a Yogi at this stage has
attained truth.
“TAJJAHA SANSKAROANYASANSKARPRATIBANDHEE” i.e., the stage of such a Yogi is not now ordinary but is changed totally. He is no more considered ordinary man.
Deepak Bhai: Can we do havan in night also at 10 pm after coming back from job? Can I keep flowers and diya bati to my master Guruji photo?
Swami Ram Swarup: Yes, please. Havan can be performed in night also. It will give you hundred percent benefit of spiritualism but the benefit to spread all the matters offered in aahuti in atmosphere for purification will not be obtained which is obtained only when Yajyen is performed in sunlight.
Actually flowers are not to be plucked otherwise they will stop giving fragrance to the air for purification etc. Instead, the plucked flowers will decay will emit smell which will be harmful. Similarly diyabati is also not required for non-alive photo.
Sreekanth: Which is better form of worship: constantly repeating a mantra or chanting the vishnu sahasranam?
Swami Ram Swarup: The best worship of God has been mentioned by God Himself in four Vedas especially in Samveda. It is said that mostly people now a days, are not aware of the said fact due to not listening Vedas.
K D Gupta: Geeta says Vasudewa Sarvamiti but which Vasudewa that in bhagwat for grahgraste gajendre or stambhe sabhayam na mrigam na manusham or as Geeta says vrishninam vasudewasmi or as goswamiji says agun aroop alakh aj joi bhakt hetu soi sagun so hoi then why to go to sagun it is always nirgun brahma which is always available to gyani and no bhakti is thus required? Please explain.
Swami Ram Swarup: I translate here the Bhagwad Geeta shlok 7/19 in this reference to question please.
Meaning: Shri Krishna Maharaj says that “while doing Vedic worship in number of births, that person who realizes/experiences at the end of his present birth that Vasudev is everything i.e., God is present in each and every matter of universe, he only realizes God but such great personality is rarely seen in the universe.”
Idea: It is very essential to understand the meaning of the word, “Vasudev” in context of Vedas. “Vaasuhu” and “Vasuhu” words originate from the root word ‘Vas’. The words “Vaasuhu” and “Vasuhu” imply He who resides in all and in whom every matter of the universe resides/dwells i.e., He who harbours the entire universe within Himself and entire universe resides within Himself (this unchangeable law is mentioned in Yajurveda mantra 40/6). So the above shloka of Geeta also relates to the said Ved mantra.
Shri Krishna maharaja has always preached from Vedas. Hence, the word “Vasudev” means the God who gives us food, water, human body and everything to survive. He creates the universe and holds all the matters and gives shelter to all.
In Rigveda mantra 10/122/1, “Vasu” word has been mentioned. In the said Rigveda mantra, the meaning of the said word ‘Vasu’ is the God who gives shelter to all within His knowledge and wisdom of light i.e., the eternal unchangeable, unlimited knowledge and power of God creates the universe and the same knowledge and power nurses and destroys the universe.
In Rig-Veda mantra 1/9/9, “Vasupatim” word has been stated. Vasupatim= Vasu+ patim. Here ‘Pati” means ‘Lord’ and ‘Vasu’ means the “creator of fire, earth, air, space etc., i.e., all matters of universe. So ‘Vasupatim’ means the ‘Lord of all the matters of the universe” like fire, earth, sun, moon, air, space, etc., etc.
The same idea has also been mentioned in 40/6 that the learned person who after studying Vedas and doing hard practice of ashtang yoga has realized God and sees that all the non-alive matters of the universe reside/remain in God and in every article he sees omnipresent God, he only drives himself away from sorrows, sadness and misunderstanding on any matter of the world (worldly or spiritual). Shri Krishna Maharaja has used the divine, eternal word “Vasudev” in the above shlok in respect of Almighty God. So, here the Vasudev word has not been used either for Shri Krishna or for his respectable father.
Neeraj: As per your answer to my earlier question: Vedas are self proof, in Vedas there is only one formless, omnipresent, omniscient and Almighty God to be worshiped. Then why many a general people are worshiping a large number of different devies and devtas? Why many of them are going to Vaishno Devi, Jagannath Puri, Swaran Mandir, Amar Nath, Kali Mata mandir at Kolkata and many other different places for different devi/devtas? Many says that God is there in ourselves and we are search Him in our inner-self then why many a people are searching Him outside at various pilgrims? If there is only One God then what is the necessity of different devi/devtas like Lord Shiva, Lord Krishna and Goddess Durga?
Moreover people are very much falling in love, worship and dedication towards them and NO love for only ONE Almighty God who is shapeless and formless? Please help me?
Swami Ram Swarup: Uptil the Mahabharata period, only the eternal knowledge of four Vedas was in force among all the human beings. Present sects had not originated at that time. So learned person are bound to think about the
present worship of devi/devtas etc., and the eternal worship of one God. It is revealed that now there are two types of worships:
i). Eternal worship mentioned in four Vedas which emanates direct from God. So the said worship is God made wherein God has briefed His divine deeds, knowledge and power etc., which were realized by the ancient Rishis by following the Vedic path only. Sri Ram, Sri Krishna, Sita, Madalsa, Janak Acharya-Gargi, Vyas Muni, Patanjali Rishi i.e., several Rajas and the Rishis followed the Vedic path only because the present sects had not originated till that time.
ii). After Mahabharata period, the sun of the Vedas eternal knowledge of Vedas began to set down. For-example, in the absence of the sun in the sky naturally the earth will be covered by the darkness. Similarly, in the absence of spreading the knowledge of the four Vedas, illusion began to cover the earth.
So new worship, new path began to be started by the human beings at their own. In this connection, a beautiful chaupayee has also been stated by Tulsidas jee as follows:
“SHRUTI SAMMAT HARI BHAKTI PATH SANJUT BIRATI BIBEK.
TEHIN NA CHALHIN NAR MOH BAS, KALPANHIN PANTH ANEK.”
Meaning: Tulsi states that there is an eternal worship based on Vedas, which gives us ascetism and factual knowledge. But the people are not following the path of Vedas due to attachment (attachment with materialistic, pomp and show and family etc.) And the people make their own new several paths of worship.
VARN DHARAM NAHIN ASHRAMCAHRI,
SHRUTI VIRODH RAT SAB NAR-NARI.
Meaning:
In Kalyug, mostly the people have become against the Vedas. They do not adopt the eternal path of Vedas wherein the knowledge of four varnnas (real brahmin, kshatriye etc.,) eternal religion i.e., duties, ashrams i.e., (brahmcharya, grihastha, vanprastha and sanyas) has been mentioned.
So within two or three thousand years the man made worship wherein several devi-devtas are being worshipped, has been spread, please.
Yes, in Vedas, it is clearly mentioned that God is within human body, as is mentioned in Yajurveda mantra 40/5— “TADANTARASYA SARVASYA”, i.e.., God is within all human beings. Rig-Veda mantra 1/164/20 also states:
“DWA SUPARNNA SAKHAYE SAYUJA SAMANAM VRIKSHE”, i.e., human body is like a tree in which two birds i.e., God and souls reside together. So the God, by following the Vedic path i.e., by doing Vedic study, havan, name-jaap and ashtang yoga practice is realized within human body of a Yogi. But man-made worship states about outer worship of God in the shape of statue etc., and His darshan (look) in experienced etc., at the spot.
So it is up to the present human beings, which worship suits them. You are again welcome, please.
Anupama: I daughter is a lefty. She even eats and puts havan aahutis by left hand. Is it good or bad?
Swami Ram Swarup: My dear daughter, blessings to you all. It is not bad to use left hand as its description is not in Vedas. However, if possible, you may try to make her to use right hand being society matter.
Anonymous: I am suffering from depression. I cannot focus on religious matters. I want to realize God but I am unable to do this because of my illness. Please, please help me to understand why it is happening to me? Is it due to my past karma? Please help me to overcome this illness.
Swami Ram Swarup: Human body is awarded by God to face the result of past lives’ good or bad deeds in the shape of happiness and sorrows respectively. So we can’t blame anybody else for experiencing problems, sickness etc. However, real worship according to Vedas kills all the past sins. So you’re advised to please contact a local acharya who knows Vedas and Ashtang yoga philosophy to guide you about the real worship of God. For-example, one should listen Vedas to obey, do havan/Yaj daily, must do name-jaap of God and practice of Ashtang yoga i.e., yam, niyam, asan, prannayam, pratyahar, dharnna, dhyan and Samadhi. The said worship kills the past sins and makes man happy with long life. I am away and can’t teach you, please. However, you’re advised to read some of my spiritual books. Please try to listen my spiritual CDs or VCD, if possible. This will give you peace.
Anil Kumar: I see some differences in photos of saints after meditation. Can you say why is that?
Swami Ram Swarup: Differences occur which is but natural. For-example wrestler does exercises, then difference between his body and face will automatically take place. So is the case of a saint, please.
Neha: Swamiji you are great. This is my 2 question to you. I have already asked you question and I am satisfied by that. How will be my life in future and career?
Swami Ram Swarup: Rig-Veda mantra 10/135/1-3 states that we all human beings have come here to face the result of past lives’ good or bad deeds in the shape of happiness and sorrows. However, real worship according to Vedas kills all the past sins. So for a student, married, vanprasthee, or sanyasee, life is made long and happy by real worship of God for which one has to make regular contact with an experienced acharya who knows Vedas and ashtang yoga philosophy.
